Talk - English
Level up your enterprise designs, with a game design lesson
Enterprise design is made to have no friction, no challenges and we strive to create seamless, intuitive and fast experiences. This often, however effective, ends up being dull and meaningless, but still really fast and effective. I have a personal belief, that being boring really effectively, is not really what we desire to do as designers.
I bet you have been thinking on multiple occasions, is this all I can do? Can't this be done better, more exciting, and engaging?
I am here to spread the word, there is a better way, there is more to learn, and we can create enterprise designs that are fast and effective, but also really engaging and fulfilling.
How?
Gamedesign!
In this talk, I will start by showing you how games are all about adding and creating friction, where Enterprise design is about removing all friction. I will take this paradox and try to be a "Design magician" and show you how you can use this opposing idea, to level up your enterprise designs.
My name is Thorbjørn, I am VP of Product Design and UX Research at Keepit, I make games in my own company polyspice.com and I host a podcast called "Hidden by Design" with a friend called Martin. I am a passionate design lover, which annoys my wife and 3 children, who have to listen to me talk about design all the time.
TLDR;
You will learn the paradox of game design in an enterprise setting.
Your designs will become 45% better after this talk. (Not a promise)
What to use from game design, and what to avoid (we will kill unnecessary leaderboards together)
I will open your heart to gamedesign, and show you have you can use it to make engaging, entertaining and effective designs.
