Sentient Banking for enterprise: When the user is a matrix

In retail banking the user is a point: one person, one intent, one moment. In business banking the user is a matrix: the person acts for a company, so the screen must answer to both — role, mandate, approval limits, four-eyes rules, risk policy. A CFO and a junior accountant should see different things; so should the same CFO at two companies.

We map how Josh Clark's Sentient Design lands in banking — what first movers ship, why most attempts stall in chatbots — and show interfaces composing themselves from the bank's own design system: the AI interprets intent only; composition stays deterministic, from pre-approved components. Demonstrated on a prototype with business-banking scenarios.

Key takeaways:

  • Enterprise adaptation is a matrix, not a persona

  • A brief, not a free-hand prompt, makes generative UI governable

  • Making a design system composable

  • Deliverables shift from screens to rules
