FOMO at Scale: Coping with hysteria packaged as inevitable innovation
Design is about ambiguity. We designers navigate it every day, and we know how to manage the anxiety that comes with it. However, our anxiety levels are set to turbo because of the AI hysteria.
In this talk, I will unpack the dynamics of self-doubt in digital design and talk about how the AI discourse manufactures fear of missing out through new means. I will discuss what we can do at a personal, team, and community level to push back for healthier outcomes.
With examples, I will share ways to:
De-slop UX work through design principles
Influence management decisions about AI
Use our privilege to protect our community
